Writing for fun

Where I’ve been and what I’ve done recently!

Ally and I got engaged! Couldn’t be happier 🙂

Also Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving in Charlottesville! It was great to see Elijah and the UVA Cavs dominate the Commonwealth Bowl this year. Go Hoos!

That’s a wrap. Another fall season in the books, and for the first time in a while, I do feel like my rowing is getting better. Now comes the tax-man.

A huge congratulations to Khaled and Aishah. Who would’ve thought that the kids down the hall my freshman fall would remain my lifelong friends. Probably the Columbia brochure writers but it’s still great.

Fall rowing with HRCR! I don’t think anyone would say the Harlem is the best place to row, but meeting so many people outside my social circle has been awesome.

So excited to start my fifth year of the PhD program. Getting the chance to catch up with peers new and old is awesome, and I love being a part of a rich and diverse intellectual community here in DEES.

First day of school! After eight years at Columbia it’s a crazy feeling to be on the other side of the classroom for the first time. I’ve enjoyed meeting my new students and can’t wait to see what the semester holds.

One of the best things about summer is getting to see old friends. Reconnecting with some of my teammates from college is always a whirlwind. It’s daunting when everyone else is on to their second or third jobs and you’re still a grad student, but worth it!

New stickers and books! I love my desk space, and retirements at the end of the school year always free up exciting book for growing the personal library.

Summer means racing season with HRCR. Max and I had a disappointing go in the double, but we’re doubling down for next year. After all, that will be at least our second time rowing together!

Summers in Vermont mean its hotter every year. This year my dad put in a geothermal heat pump at the farm. Awesome to see all the machinery running!

Iceland was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. A little cold even in the summer, but austere landscape, and all the geology, made it a trip to remember.

Happy birthday Alexis! I can’t believe it’s been almost nine years since we all met, but I couldn’t be more proud of you and all my med student friends.

And Khaled.

I always struggle to find the right words for time in the American SW. On this trip, Ally went rim to rim on the grand canyon. I carried her extra gear back up the first mile and a half. Equally difficult no doubt.
